Story v plot. Plot is everything. I usually revel against planning when I write but I think things are leading me to sit and plan. Am reading about plot lines and how they matter hugely not only with readability, reader's interest but in helping the writer come up with fresh ways to spin the yarn.

Astley Book Farm, Nuneaton, West Midlands, England.
I've visited many bookshops in every place we go to but this place was simply the best shop for book lovers!
It's all second hand. The owner told me she only buys good books and I saw this throughout. The fiction section is huge. All of Carer's books were there along with any short story writers you may wish for! The well known and the lesser.
I picked up some great ones. Angela Carter, Carver and Roald Dahl to name some.
The shop is a neat and atmospheric labyrinth including a caje filled cafe, fabulous gardens to sit, read, eat, drink coffee and a Retro Shed for retro home buys.
If you're in the Midlands, you need to go. In fact I'd suggest even if you live in Ireland you need to fly to Birmingham and drive up for the day!

Most anticipated read this summer or year for me! Non - fiction seems to be shedding the memoir sometimes negative connotation. I've started reading this. It's very true.
The first piece of writing explores the author's thoughts and life dealing with their father's alcoholism. Most anticipated read this summer or year for me! Non – fiction seems to be shedding the memoir sometimes negative connotation. I’ve started reading this. It’s very true.

What I'm reading now. Picked up a copy of The Line by Dr. Ian Garvan today. Have been dying to read this for a while.
Based on the author's most compelling cases and interviews, many of them society's most violent offenders. It seeks to unlock the criminal mind and to expose how fragile our notions of good and bad, right and wrong, really are. What I’m reading now. Picked up a copy of The Line by Dr. Ian Garvan today. Reading Brokeback Mountain, a short story collection by Annie Proux.

Reading Brokeback Mountain, a short story collection by Annie Proux. Finished The mud below last night. Annie is a pro at story structure and making the reader almost cry at the rawness of her characters' lives. This story is about a young rodeo in Wyoming. A journey story where the protagonist searches for meaning in a place where we know there is none. Annie writes brilliantly about and for the young, disconnected male. Highly recommend her.Reading Brokeback Mountain, a short story collection by Annie Proux. Finished The mud below last night. Picked up Grief is the thing with feathers at the Festival of Writing and Ideas last weekend. After the talk with author Max Porter and Enda Walsh and Cillian Murphy, I wanted to get the feel of the book that's been on my to read list for a while!
It's a short book which is attractive to me as I have many to read. I finished it in a couple of bedtime reading sittings. It's a poem, a novel, a rant, a memoir, a drama and it's mostly lovely and sad. I loved the father's voice when he remembers the wife he lost to a tragic accident. I love the two young boys and the tales they tell about their mother and how they help their Dad grieve alongside them. The crow motif / character was just that. Needed nut unlikeable. Language everywhere with the crow. I mostly loved the third act and the last few pages are emotional and deserving of a stand up encore from the reading audience!Picked up Grief is the thing with feathers at the Festival of Writing and Ideas last weekend. Books are gorgeous but this book is just divine. The illustrations, the cover, the inset, the feel.. Oh and the writing!
I attended the talk on with Max Porter, Cillian Murphy and Enda Walsh at Borris 2018. A cosy, creative chat was had. All the lads seemed to connect within their work on the stage adaption of this novella. It was about the book, the writing and I admired the way Cillian Murphy refused to take the attention away from the author.Books are gorgeous but this book is just divine. Stinging Fly Magazine celebrating their first 20 years from 1998-2018 with this super thick volume of short stories.
First up is the big vocab kinda guy, Colin Barrett and his story "Let's go kill ourselves". This is a treat for me, and could be for you too. Oh, readers of short and good fiction.
